More than juice and essential oil : Citruses as powerhouses of health-enhancing potential
Marco Valussi is a Clinical Phytotherapist with a specific expertise in essential oils; he works as consultant for the distilling industry and as educator and writer in the fields of herbal medicine, aromatherapy and medicinal plants. After reading Forestry at the University of Padua, he moved to London, where he first studied aromatherapy at ITHMA under the guidance of Gabriel Mojay, and then gained a BSc. in herbal medicine from Middlesex University in 1998.
After working as a clinical herbalist/aromatherapist for several years, he then switched to teaching and consultancy work, and began to work with iNGOs in developing countries in the field of essential oil production. This experience led him to start a distillation company in Italy, Magnifica essenza srl, an Italian distilling company based in Trentino, in the middle of the Dolomites, specializing in mountain plants and trees with the aim of creating a network of small farmers and producers.
Marco has also written more than 120 articles on different subjects related to medicinal and aromatic plants and several textbooks on herbal medicines and essential oils including a professional text on essential oil science. He is currently involved with colleagues in writing a comprehensive systematic review on the antiviral properties of essential oils.
Marco is a member of the Scientific Committees for the professional magazine "L'Erborista", for the association for ecological dermatology “Skineco”, and he is a scientific consultant for the Italian Society of Herbal Science and Technology (SISTE). He is the Italian representative for EHTPA (European Herbal and Traditional Practitioners Association) and a member of the “Italian Society for Research on Essential Oils” (SIROE).
